Skin sizes can vary but this information below is a guide to the dimensions and sizes of skins we stock:
Full calfskin
A trimmed whole calfskin can vary from a smaller and lighter weight skin (10-16sqft) to a larger and slightly heavier skin (17-22sqft).
Bovine side
Typically the size can range from 18-30sqft. These come from a whole cow hide, cut down the back bone to make two sides.
Shoulder
Again usually vegetable tanned, this is part of the hide towards the front and the size can vary from 12-18sqft.
Butt
Usually vegetable tanned, this is part of the hide towards the rear below the shoulders which has been halved to make a single butt, therefore size is between 8-12sqft.
Double Butt
As the name suggests, the butt is left whole but squared off making it about 18-22sqft.
Shell
This is taken from an equine hide and is the membrane layer underneath the skin. Cordovan has very fine pores and is very durable but maintains its suppleness as it is taken from the rump. These are only small in size, generally between 1-2.5sqft.
Kid
These are soft pliable skins made from kidskin (goat). The size of kid skins will be between 2-5sqft.
